There are a group of people in the world known as overachievers. These individuals are particularly bent on getting things done. They are often hyper-productive and hyper-successful. Unfortunately, due to their very nature, they know very little about the concept of being kinder to yourself.
It’s possible that you are among these people. You don’t have to own all the money in the world, but it’s still possible that you hardly ever cut yourself some slack, and you’re always trying to get things done. This is admirable, but sometimes, you really need to be kinder to yourself. Here’s how:
-
Create time for yourself
Working all day and all night might be a great way to make money, depending on how much money you’re making. But it’s a horrible way to become kinder to yourself. Besides, this is an incredibly unhealthy way to live your life. So, by all means, create some time for yourself. During that period, make sure that you do what you love the most.
-
Give yourself some recognition
One peculiar attribute about certain kinds of people is that they’re not particularly interested in getting credit for any of their efforts. Some fathers will go several hours without food for their family, and they’ll stress themselves to the bone but will reject any shred of recognition. Don’t do that to yourself. It has a way of affecting your mental health. Don’t let too much praise get to you. But, in the same vein, don’t deny yourself recognition of your little or large efforts.
-
Forgive yourself
Whether you like it or not, at some point in your life, you’ll make a mistake. In fact, at different points in your life, you’ll make multiple mistakes. During those periods, you’ll wonder if you’re truly as good as you think you are. You’ll start to question your intelligence, capacity, and emotional fortitude. It’s perfectly normal. But, you have to realize that everyone makes mistakes. If you beat yourself up for the things that you’ve done and you never forgive yourself, you might become really miserable, and we don’t want that for you.
-
Treat yourself occasionally
No, we don’t mean that in a medical way. Of course, if you fall ill, you should take yourself to the hospital. But, outside that, learn to enjoy yourself a little bit. Do you like confectionaries? Occasionally spoil yourself with these things. Do you enjoy ice cream? Buy yourself a decent bowl of ice cream and have a good time. As long as you’re not overeating and endangering your health, you should be fine, really.
Conclusion
It can be really easy going off the deep end and spiraling down an abyss of self-loathing, among other things. But, as difficult as it might be, you need to be kinder to yourself because the rewards are, by a long shot, much more enjoyable than the consequences of constantly beating yourself up.
